Hello, Royals! We are back with INCREDIBLE news on the beauty front! Our home state, California, just passed a bill banning the sale of any products tested on animals including ingredients tested on animals! California is the first state to take the major step towards cruelty-free beauty.

Bill SB1249, proposed by California senator, Kathleen Galgiani, bans all beauty products including skincare, bodycare, makeup and hair care that have been tested on animals beginning in 2020. We are proud to announce that ALL of our skincare lines at Spa Kingston are cruelty-free! One of the prominent skincare and bodycare lines we carry, Epicuren, is a pioneer in the cruelty free skincare industry and advocating for eco-awareness. A majority of their products also have a vegan ingredient deck.

Finding acne lines and products that are cruelty free can surprisingly be a difficult task because most acne lines are owned by either household product, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical companies are required by law to test on animals. Brands like ProActive claim to be cruelty free on their sites but when confronted via email say they can’t uphold this claim. Our certified Acne Clinic uses a cruelty-free line, Face Reality, that we recommend to all of our acne clinic clients. Face Reality works wonders to clear existing breakouts, prevent future breakouts, and helps to heal scarring.

The one of the two makeup lines we currently carry, Glo Beauty, is all mineral, talc-free, paraben free and cruelty free! They have joined up with PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies Program, a program designed for compassionate shoppers. Beauty Without Bunnies aims to connect consumers with cruelty-free brands. The program makes it easy for consumers to learn which companies and products are cruelty-free.

“Our Corporate Social Responsibility policy transcends those directly employed by Glo, reaching through our supply chain to validate the values and standards of our vendor partners,” says Wenker. “Our PETA Cruelty-Free achievement for glo minerals reflects this commitment to holding ourselves to a higher standard.”

Our other makeup line, Colorscience, carries our favorite spf powder brush and is cruelty free as well while they continue to monitor all global standards on animal testing.

*Although the California Assembly unanimously passed #SB1249—the California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act—it won't become law if the governor does not sign it. If you live in California, please call Governor Brown’s office today at 916-445-2841 and ask that he sign SB 1249 into law!
